Shangri La! 12 was all about this:

Vinny Peculiar, famously christened the Tony hancock of pop by UNCUT MAGAZINE, is the pseudonym of Alan Wilkes; a Manchester based performance poet and songwriter who’s bands have vicariously included members of the Smiths, the Fall and OASIS. Vinny has also collabrated with Bill Drummond [KLF] on his SOUP LINE project; he’s toured the theatres and concert halls of Europe opening for the likes of Arab Strap and The Divine Comedy and is a regular compere/performer at the Glastonbury Festival Acoustic Stage.

Vinny furnished the Shangers with a tapestry of sonic stories, both observational
and nostalgic, an excellent set.

hope you don't mind us bigging ourselves up:

"It’s a smallish gig this one, but incredibly well formed, I can tell this from years of practice, trust me; I’m am accredited ambience detective small venue specialist. There are three other acts on tonight’s bill, all very different and all are incredibly good. I’m not just saying that in a witterish it’s easier to be positive kind of way; it was a genuinely
uplifting night’s entertainment."

Chris Stokes
had us all in stitches; a slow-building, relentless stream of existential
hilarity, superb. More info click here.

A last minute booking who stole the show, Dominic Berry blew us away with brilliantly
written poems on varying subjects including Veganism and Ronald McDonald.

Dominic runs a poetry night at Green Room called Freed Up, more info click here or here.

Last but not least (not least as they went on first) the brilliant Vagina Wolf, introduced as
'the assault of noise that is...' blew the Sha-La! away with a set full of energy-laden tunes.
The band turned up the night before with two drum kits with a shared bass drum, a kind of percussive mirror-image.
This was used to great effect; deranged polyrhythms tangled around angular guitar riffs. Enough long words, suffice to say
they were damn good, and loud. Apologies for the crappy photos, for more Vaginal info click here.
